Most of our plants are sold in biodegradable CowPots. Please note:

  • CowPots dry out quickly so keep them in the shade, and check their water needs daily until they’re in the ground (you can tell if they’re dry by color and touch).

  • Handle pots carefully when they’re wet, they tear easily.

  • No need to remove the pot before planting. CowPots actually break down in 1 growing season.

Planting Instructions by Species

Please follow the spacing guidelines listed below. Water daily for the first week after planting, and regularly during the first season. All our plants are native to the northeastern United States and in the right spot will grow without special treatment. Soil amendments are generally not needed, although shade loving plants may appreciate the occasional top dressing of compost. For moisture-loving plants - if you don’t have a wet spot for them, plant them in partial shade and give them extra water during dry spells.
