Create Your Own Pocket Meadow
• Dry Northeastern Meadow • Moist Northeastern Meadow • Woods’ Edge Meadow • Shortgrass Meadow
These workshops are for gardeners who want to convert a piece of their lawn to meadow at an affordable cost. The “pocket meadows” are designed to be 150 to 200 square feet - small enough to be manageable, large enough to attract plenty of wildlife. For the first time this year, each workshop comes with a planting plan to help you place the young seedlings in a layout that will look good and function well.
Success in starting your new meadow means committing to a process that will take the entire growing season. First step is to kill the existing vegetation and prepare the site. Next is to select the young plants and keep them alive till planting time. Final step is to plant in the fall, and water until the growing season is over. In following years, watering should not be necessary except during extreme dry spells.
To help you plan and prepare your meadow, the workshop includes a Zoom meeting in late February/early March. If you can’t make the Zoom, the slideshow will be available for you to view.
